Stephen Paling is the author of poetry collection Rooms in Old Houses(2020).
Stephen lives in the Finger Lakes region of New York, where he works in high school special education. He feels deeply at home in the landscape of New York and New England, and in his work that landscape takes on the quality of a character in its own right. He has lived and traveled widely in the United States. He holds a PhD from Syracuse University, and has participated in independent literary work, as both reader and author, for most of his life. He also attended Simmons College and the University of New Hampshire. While at New Hampshire, he had the privilege to study with Mekeel McBride and Charles Simic. Stephen’s academic experience at New Hampshire, and the terrain of New England, created a profound change in his poetry during those years. He still works in that vein, and considers the landscape a living part of his work.
